Cultivating a sacred space through gardening.

There are few things more calming and peaceful than sitting in a beautiful garden on a sunny day. This is even more so when the garden you are in is one that you have created and cultivated with your own bare hands. It doesn’t have to be a neatly pruned garden. It could be a blossoming veggie garden, a Zen garden or even a fantasy like garden, with garden ornaments, streams and water features.

There are so many aspects as to why millions of people are incredibly passionate about gardening. Creating and caring for a garden relies on a spirit of nurturing. If fulfils a need to nurture which most people inherently have. As with creating a human life, watching it develop and seeing the results of your nurturing, we can see this same cycle in gardening as well. Plants are, after all, a form of life. To know that your love, passion and delicate care has produced anything from a beautiful rose bush to a head of lettuce from a simple seedling. Another therapeutic aspect of gardening is the feeling of being outside, surrounded by nature. Feeling the earth under your feet and the soil between your fingers. The childlike wonder of getting your clothes dirty and the joy of fresh air.

There is certainly a very special spiritual connection between a person and their garden. It is a two way relationship. You provide your garden with the love the care and the work and your garden provides you with its beautiful flowers and plants, or fresh and delicious vegetables that will nourish your body. Your garden is your own. A representation of love, hard work and nurturing.
