Who is Body and Mind?
Body and Mind is an online health directory for professionals. The site advertises alternative health and healing products, services and therapists.

How do I become a member?

Click this button BM Membership Form

Complete the Membership Form downloaded, send it to and you’re in. Then, send us an A4 page of information promoting yourself, with your logo and a couple of pictures.

How do I pay?
Payment is made by monthly debit order or EFT by invoice. CLICK HERE to view our rates.

What does membership offer me?

Can you tell me about your mailing list?
Our mailing list consists of 26 000 subscribers from all around South Africa. It is an opt-in mailing list. Our subscribers are from all walks of life and they have signed up because they are interested in health and wellbeing. We have grouped subscribers into each province, namely KZN, the Cape and Gauteng. Each province in turn is broken down into groups of 2000. We have 3 groups in KZN and the Cape, and 6 groups in Gauteng. These groups have been created to make online advertising more affordable and available to every kind of budget.

How is banner advertising beneficial for me?
The cliché goes, “A picture says a 1000 words.” Well, this is very true online. In our busy lives, we tend to browse the net in our free time (which is generally very little), take a quick glance for anything new on those favourite pages, and if something catches the eye in those few brief seconds, we will click on it for more info. Considering enjoys between 30 000 and 50 000 views each month, having an eye catching banner ad on the site will generate impressions and clicks for you. The objective is to make you very visible so that people become familiar with your brand and contact you.

Yes, our social media platforms include Facebook, Twitter, Linkedin, Googleplus and Youtube. We have over 10 000 followers, fans and subscribers. We also have Stumbleupon, Reddit, Tumblr and many more.

What is a Podcast?
A podcast is an online recorded interview. We will interview you and use this voice recorded interview in a format that can be used extensively for future marketing and advertising campaigns. Not only will we give the interview to you for your own use (such as uploading it to your own website), but we will market it too. It will be promoted on your page, on all our social networks, and our Interview Featured page on It is better to do the interview in the first month of membership.

What marketing tips do you have to offer?

1. Send out regular mail shots. Remind South Africa of your amazing service.
2. Write and upload interesting articles at least every three months. These articles are shared in the national newsletter to generate additional exposure for you. Make sure the spelling is perfect.
3. Brand everything. Make yourself as visible as possible. Make sure your logo features in your email signature, company stationary, and every advert. Also, keep the branding simple. Ask us for advice if you need.
4. Create a Facebook Page to share quotes and pictures with your friends and family. Facebook is a great, easy way to reach 100 000’s of people interested in your business.
5. Let Body and Mind design and boost Facebook adverts for you.
6. Update your LinkedIn and Twitter profiles regularly. You can also link your Facebook page to these so when you post an update on Facebook, LinkedIn and Twitter are updated simultaneously – without extra work on your side.
7. Plan a marketing strategy for 6 months at a time.
8. Always add marketing as part of your annual expenditure. Henry Ford said, “A man who stops advertising to save money is like a man who stops a clock to save time.” The word ‘man’ meaning ‘mankind’ here.
9.  Set short, medium and long term goals for your strategy.
10. Set vision and mission statements. This will give you focus and help you stay on the right track to business success.
11. Remember: you’re not marketing against others, your marketing to promote your service. Generate an attitude of grateful generosity, and you will see the rewards soon enough.
12. Remove all negativity from your life - meditate daily! A calm mind will find the best solutions.

What makes a good website?

1. First Impressions do count: The first 7 seconds of a client’s experience is the most important. If the site does not catch their attention immediately, chances are that they will navigate away from the page. This is what is called a ‘bounce rate.’ If the bounce rate is high, it means people leave the site almost immediately after landing on the home page. If the bounce rate is low, it means people enjoy browsing the site, and take their time browsing through the pages.
Body and Mind’s new design is professional, fresh and clean. There is more advertising space in a way that does not appear like a website full of advertising. Therapists have YouTube video space for promotions as well.
2. Easy to Navigate: A site has to be user friendly. Buttons need to be clear and the overall design quite simple. A lot of research has gone into the new design for and this learning process has given us the tools to help you with your web pages on the site.
Body and Mind has consolidated 3 search reports into one report. This will allow the user to find a therapist in their area quickly and easily. The different sections of the site are very clear, and graphics have been displayed with all articles. Market research shows that people are more likely to read articles that have attractive pictures with them.
3. Meaningful Content: The content on the site must coincide with description and perception of the URL name. The URL is very important and should not be misleading because it will affect the credibility of the site. The Body and Mind site zones in and focuses more on articles of value. Although members upload articles, each article is screened for relevance, and copy written (if necessary).
4. Fast upload: Any website that takes more than 3 (three) seconds to fully load is considered a slow site. Users tend to navigate away from a slow site. Although beautiful images are important for a site, image size will affect the upload speed. Take this into consideration when building your marketing strategy. Body and Mind uses the latest in web design technology which makes the site superior in its style, upload speed and search.

Information on Body and Mind

A brief background on how Body and Mind came about. At the age of 18, I (Traci French) had a big back operation. At that point, I found that aromatherapy treatment was the best remedy to help with the pain and healing. At the beginning of 2000, my aromatherapist emigrated. I didnt know where to look to find another therapist, so I did a search on the internet. The search went on for days until I realised that directories for alternative healing therapies were non existent. So, Body and Mind was born in April 2000. Interest flooded in, because a directory of this nature had never been created before, and therapists from all over the country were too happy to have a place to advertise themselves. I started by writing a newsletter detailing my experiences of various therapies to about 40 people. Years later, we now have 30 000 people who subscribe to the newsletter. Body and Mind has grown from strength to strength, and it is all in the name of good health and support to those who need it.
