WHAT IS TRE AND HOW WILL IT HELP ME?
According to traumaprevention.com, Tension & Trauma Release Exercise or TRE is a dynamic series of moves that can help the body to release deep muscular patterns of stress, tension and trauma. Originator Dr David Berceli says the practice activates a natural ‘shaking’ reflex, which can facilitate the calming of the nervous system. Recent research shows that the cluster stress, tension and trauma have a psychological and a physical component. By activating this mechanism in a safe and controlled environment, the body is encouraged to return to a state of equilibrium.
I recently attended my first TRE session in Cape Town, with life coach Lynne Wright. My experience was that this method of quietening the brain and releasing muscular tension is in fact extremely hard work… but, similar to a massage (which is as detoxing but much less of the hard work), afterwards you should: 1) make time to relax/have a nap; 2) ensure that you drink plenty of water; and 3) take in the signs your body emits of you having processed and released tension. Mine were vivid dreams, feeling rather overheated and, the following day, a clearer head for work!â€¨
