What to look for
Colic is believed to happen when the bowel in a baby contracts more frequently than an adult’s slower peristaltic movements. theses are the characteristics normally it is very difficult to comfort your baby, loud screaming that lasts for hours, three or more days a week. After the baby has been fed it cry’s for long periods. The baby pulls this knees up over his stomach as if he has a stomach ache usually while crying, the beginning or end of crying episodes there is a bowel movement or a wind. Colic is very common and relatively harmless although it may be uncomfortable for the child and exhausting for the parents, this condition ends after the child is 4 months old
Experts don’t known what the cause of colic is. But they associate it to any number of things, Including weaning the child too early, hormones in breast milk, allergies, overfeeding and an infants undeveloped digestive system. then the baby cries it only worsens because the baby is taking in extra air which can worsen the problem
Try giving things to child to distract him or her. Taking your child for a walk, drive or just by gently rocking them can relieve colic. To sooth the pain use a warm water bottle. If you are getting frustrated or exhausted ask a relative or a friend to take over. Be very consistent with the ways in which you ease the child wrap your child snugly in a blanket to provide a sense of security and comfort.
When to seek further professional advice
If your baby is older than three months and is still acting colicky; illness or behavioural problems my be the cause. bouts of colic are followed by fever, constipation, vomiting or diarrhoea. If your baby has never had colic before
If your baby's crying sounds painful to you, not fussy - indicating injury or illness is causing the distress. If your child fails to gain weight and is not hunger especially if your child has colic this suggests illness.
If you're exhausted or fear stress might lead you to hurt your baby.
Herbal Remedies - try using teas made from herbs that contains carminative oils, this reduces inflammation in the bowels and lessens the gas production. you should also try teas that’s made of chamomile, peppermint, dill or lemon balm.
Aromatherapy - you should try massaging your child’s stomach with chamomile or peppermint in a clockwise direction. Do not give aromatherapy oils to children younger than 2 weeks.
Actually there is no cure for colic, you can try using home remedies it my be helpful in soothing colicky babies. you should always try to be calm and suppress your anxiousness as this can inadvertently be transferred to your child and this will make the condition worse.
DO NOT EVER punish a child with colic. If it gets to much ask someone else to stay with the child while you take a few moments while you relax and calm yourself to distract your child from the pain give him something safe to suck, you can also try rhythmic rocking or walking with him is soothing.
