Do you get too caught up in the craziness of life and tend to lose yourself or are you constantly suffering from allergies, illnesses or emotional imbalances?
These days, with the fast-paced and stressful lifestyle we find ourselves in it is easy to neglect self-care and find ourselves overwhelmed by external pressures, often leading to emotional and physical disorders and problems.

I offer an integrated therapy aiming to balance all aspects of oneself – physical, emotional, environmental, spiritual and energetic – so that one can live a more present, authentic and healthy life. I do this by combining my experience as a Counselling Psychologist, BodyTalk Practitioner and hypnotherapist.

What is BodyTalk?

Every one of us is born with an innate wisdom to know exactly what our body needs to function optimally. Think about how the blood begins to clot and a scab forms when you cut yourself or how your body begins to produce antibodies as soon as a virus is detected. In order for this to occur our body systems and even individual cells are in constant communication with each other.

However, through exposure to the stresses of day-to-day life these lines of communication can become compromised or blocked, which then leads to a decline in physical, emotional and/or mental well-being. Another possibility is that a chronic imbalance is not rectified due to the body being too run down or no longer even recognising it as a priority for balancing.

BodyTalk enhances the body's innate ability to balance and heal itself on all levels. Through a process of neuromuscular feedback the BodyTalk practitioner determines what communication links are indicated by the body as priorities for balancing. This balancing is implemented through a Hatha Yoga body-tapping technique.

BodyTalk is non-invasive, objective in application and works effectively on humans and animals alike. If a BodyTalk technique is implemented incorrectly, there will simply be no result or change; it will not make things worse. Because of this built-in safety factor, anyone who receives BodyTalk has nothing to lose and everything to gain as far as his or her health and wellness is concerned.

What is Psychotherapy?

Often in life people realise that they have become stuck, are feeling unhappy, or may even feel a deep sense of despair and not know why. One may notice the same patterns and themes arising such as the type of relationships experienced or the same fears that keep surfacing.
Psychotherapy enables one to explore the reasons behind these experiences in the context of a
healthy and safe therapeutic relationship with an objective therapist. The therapist generally acts as a mirror to reflect back what needs to be observed by the client or the therapist takes on board the information and returns in a way that makes more sense and can be more easily taken in by the client. Everyone has the answers already but sometimes needs some help to access them.

Putting it together
I determine my approach to each individual based on their beliefs and opinions, expectations and presenting concerns. Sessions can range from exploring practical coping mechanisms and more healthy ways of thinking and behaving for day-to-day life to exploring deeper unconscious beliefs and emotions through hypnotherapy or at a body and energy level using BodyTalk. Talking therapy can be beneficial on its own but some people find they then reach a limit to which they make shifts and that is generally when working with the deeper unconscious can be advantageous as well as focussing on active memories and related emotions held deep in the body and balancing these with other aspects of one's body/mind complex. I have deep respect for any individual who chooses to enter into a journey of healing and work with each individual at a level that is most comfortable for him/her.

This integrated therapy is beneficial for people of all ages and at any level of mental and physical health. One does not need to be in a particular state of mind or health in order to benefit. Due to my training as a psychologist and in more esoteric forms of therapy I feel confident to explore a number of concerns from the more emotional to the physical including assisting with the following:

Biography of Kerry Buchan
I have always been interested in healing - which led to my studying psychology from 2004 and qualifying as a Counselling Psychologist. However, I soon found Psychology to be limited in that people can have an 'ah ha' moment but this only brings about small shifts. While we can understand things on an intellectual level it does not necessarily bring about shifts on a deeper level where the shifts need to take place for change to be lasting. So it was that I became interested in hypnotherapy and the power of the subconscious mind/the deeper unconscious aspects of our lives. I became a qualified clinical hypnotherapist and found this to have powerful results. I then stumbled across BodyTalk and experienced it as a client for the first time in 2005. I was amazed at how much more quickly shifts are brought about through BodyTalk and how powerful the modality is. It was not long before I had begun the journey of exploring the importance of holistic healing which encompasses but is greater than the mind/emotions and includes a focus on physical experiences, environmental factors and, of course, energy.
