THE GIFT OF TIME IN THE KAROO

A 4 DAY KAROO EXPERIENCE

The Karoo old as time is to many just a name on the map, conjuring up an image of endless grey scrub, sheep and abandoned homesteads, yet it is this very name Karoo, that holds within its kaleidoscope of colours and textures, and its immeasurable vastness the wisdom which the first people inscribed on rock faces, our link to who we are, revealing to us the sanctity of this place so ancient, so rich in stories, in plant and animal life.
     
Today there are so many causes to support, from whales, wild life, to rain forests, and we throw our weight behind saving the planet. We have really come a long way in changing our mindset, and this is good, and each cause so very worthy.
          
Somewhere between here and now lies the Karoo, silent, ancient, waiting patiently to share its bounty of wisdom, ancientness, history, plant, animal, and mineral kingdom.
         
I invite you to pause a while in the little Karoo and allow all this wealth to come to you through the stories, the insights, the quietness. I invite you to discover the heart of the Klein Karoo, and in that your own heart.

I call on the photographer, the artist, the writer, the dreamer, the man and woman, to hold hergently and bring her to life, to share your insights, and her magic with others.

For only through experiencing the Karoo and her magic, are you able to become not only her ears, but become her voice, for long has she waited for mankind to reconnect with her vibrancy, her richness and to fill the role of protector of her sanctity in a gentle manner as did the bushmen and khoi
 


I sat silently in the vastness of the Karoo and found my song
I sat silently in the lap of the grandmother of the Karoo
where her stories became mine.
I sat silently as the sun tinted the landscape in shades of orange and red
and I found humility in my wholeness.

You can too, all mamma Karoo asks is that you gift both yourself and her with time.

I extend this invitation from Kapteinskloof, somewhere between here and now in the little Karoo, in the shadow of the grand sentinels of the Swartberg and Outeniqua Mountains.
