Review on God’s Window Retreat

Roxann had the opportunity to go visit God’s Window in Port Edward. Here is her review:

In short, look no more as paradise is found! If you are in need of a break be it to Relax, Retreat and Rejuvenate, or to simply enjoy a peaceful self-catering break-away with friends amidst nature, then look no further!

I invited a group of friends to join me for a weekend down the South Coast, to visit God’s Window Estate owned by Marcel Lottering who is an extraordinary soul. On first contact it felt as if we knew each other forever, which felt more like a home-coming than booking into a retreat.

Each and every one in our group fell in love at first glance! The well-equipped comfortable cottages are intricately nestled between the trees and canopies; Marcel certainly waved his magic wand, carefully weaving the cottages amongst the forest background, like a perfectly planned canvas. One feels instantly transported into an Island setting, yet it’s right on our doorstep!

Although fully equipped with all the mod-cons, it was a welcome change to be away from the city buzz simply bathing in the unadulterated frequency of Mother Nature, if only I could stay there for there for eternity!

Being awarded an “Airbnb Award” Marcel is a master-host extraordinaire! He laid out a detailed program of events and attractions in the area, all depending on time and what we fancied.

We were blessed to bathe under the Full Moon (the Pink full moon) which we viewed from the Red Desert (the smallest desert in the world) which was surreal, almost implausible, after which we chilled around the fire playing card games.

After a scrumptious breakfast the next morning Marcel offered us the use of the in-house bicycles to explore the surrounds. Unfortunately we weren’t able to do the astounding Petrified Forest due to excessively high tides, but made up for it by exploring the Umtamvuna River doing a stunning boat ride.

‘The Pont’ which is a short ride from the sanctuary, is a longstanding ‘must visit’ camp site and estuary, where we enjoyed a delicious lunch at the restaurant whilst gazing at locals strutting their stuff showing off their boats. After lunch we joined in the fun using the Gods Window canoes.

Late afternoon the boys went fishing whilst the girls indulged! Adjacent to the pool area is The Lotus Sanctuary where we enjoyed an aroma salt spa-bath and sauna, complimented by a fantastic massage and facial, which can be arranged on request.

The retreat evolved from a complete love perspective, and believe me only a few minutes in Marcel’s company will confirm this. It’s the perfect place to host a workshop or retreat of any kind, as the facility caters for groups, couples or singles!

So whether you prefer to laze around with a book, explore the adjacent nature reserve or many other places of interest, nothing beats the ambiance of relaxing around the fire when the sun sets, be it for a barbeque or to simply enjoy your preferred nectar of the gods.

Apart from honouring nature in its complete totality, ‘Gods Window’ is a place of reflection, integration and respect towards all.
